Used Turtle Wax Chrome Polish which has a rust removing property.
Works well on chrome, but if it's pitted it's pitted. Doesn't work well on fake chrome or painted on chrome by the way..

It also works well on shiny metal as you can see in my link. All you do is slather on the goop, let it sit and do the work for a few minutes.

I'll see if I can show in an upcoming reply a deep pitted chrome badge with treatment and how much rust it removed. A lightly pitted chrome mirror assembly. A really rusted POS part. And a few more minor surface rust parts.

It seems to work very well on surface rust compared to this very expensive bottle my buddy bought at three/four times the price. And it only took a matter of minutes to let the stuff work and some elbow grease to polish. His expensive one seemed to take forever, needed a lot of polishing, and even then couldn't take off all the surface rust easily.
