I'm trying to figure out what really is the difference between the "75 and older" and "76 and up" 8 1/4 rear ends.
The differential rebuild kits are distinguished in this way (even though I've found one kit for "75 and up"!) so there must be some difference in one or more of these components.

Could someone help me replacing the question marks in the list below with part numbers from a '76 catalog? I've included the parts positions from the '75 catalog since the positions often don't change from one year to another.

PART '75 Cat.Pos. '75 Part Nr. '76+ Part Nr.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Pinion brg cone fr. 3-22-24 2070 316 ??
Pinion brg cup fr. 3-22-25 2070 317 ??
Pinion brg cone rr. 3-22-24 2800 484 ??
Pinion brg cup rr. 3-22-25 2800 485 ??
Shims 3-22-28 3723 620 > 637 ??
Crush sleeve 3-22-26 3507 575 ??
Pinion Seal 3-22-45 2881 041 ??
Pinion Nut 16-20-3 6028 041 ??
Diff brg cone 3-11-1 1790 541 ??
Diff brg cup 3-11-2 3723 569 ??

If someone can tell me straight up what differs, that too is appreaciated but if possible, I would be really happy if I could get hold of the part numbers as well!
Anyone?

Sorry for the messy list - formatting did not work the way I thought...

Thanks daliant!

Is that the only difference? (I.e. Can I use all other part from a 76 up rebuild kit for my 75?)

Anyone have the part number for the 76 up cup/cone?

Just to end this thread with my experiences from the bearing replacements.
Turns out that the change from smaller OD to bigger OD diff bearings happened some time during '75. Timken catalog differentiates with early/late '75 and it seems correct since my '75 actually use the later bigger OD bearings.
