Need guidance, timing

73 225 duster auto. I can only get 5 degrees initial timing before the distributor maxes out on adjustment, but have plenty of retard available. I think the distributor needs to be rotated one tooth but not sure. And if so which way should I rotate it.

That's where I was going to go. You are probably off one tooth, maybe more. You should be able to have tons of adjustment in both directions.

Distributor rotation is clockwise looking from above so go one tooth at a time counter-clockwise till you have enough adjustment.
 
Remember the other slot under the distributor body. I had to play with both tooth alignment and that slot to get the adjustment I needed with leeway both ways
 
Well it took a while and I must've pulled the distributor out 15 times but got it. Thanks all
