This is a picture of the 8 3/4 chuck in my car does anybody know what the numbers and "M" symbols mean?

There should be a set of casting numbers along the bottom (just below the pinion) of the center section that will end in either a 741 or 742 or 489.

That's what i thought but look at the #'s in the pic
 
IIRC, that the forerunner to the 742 case. Was used in 1957-1964 cars.

Should use the same gears as a 742 case.

Thanks guys i'm looking to see if i should sell this rearend and go with a dana.I use a transbrake and been fine all year but i think it might be time to upgrade.Don't want to blow it and take out the trans.

If you do decide to sell you shouldn't have any problem here. What kind of HP are you running thru her.
