I just bought a 1968 Plymouth Valiant Signet, originally came with a slant 6.

When I bought the car, the spider gears were trashed, only the passenger wheel spins due to the spider being completely grinded down. The previous owner welded the spider gears to the case. I need a new case and spider gears until I can find a 8.75 in the next few years for it. Wife will not let me buy any more expensive toys for a while. I do not think my 68 7.25 has c clips, it is the smaller bolt pattern. Jegs has an open carrier but says it may not fit older bolt in axles. Will these fit? All I am doing is a bandaid fix until I can find a bigger one in a couple years. I'm a Jeep guy and am new to a bodies so any help would be appreciated.

Why not put out a Want Ad for a 7.25? Most guys end up giving them away or they end up going to the landfill. If I was ready to pull mine, it could be had for nothing

Something sounds a little off about the statement "Only the passenger side spins because of spider gear being ground down"
If a spider was ground down the car wouldn't move at all.
Open carrier rear ends only spin the right tire for the most part unless you are in a left hand turn.

Where the differential was welded by the previous owner, it looks like the weld broke on the drivers side. If I jack up the car, put it in neutral, you can turn the tire and the passenger tire does not spin in the opposite direction, no movement. I wish I could reuse the case, but I do not think that it possible. Shocking thing is, the car drives with no noticeable clunks, just pulls during acceleration. I just wish I could find a case and some spiders. I have been having a hard time finding them.

OHHHHH, That explains it. :D
A picture is worth a thousand words.

BTW, the striped off gear is a side gear, as the spider gears are only the two little ones on the pin.

Ill give ya a complete rear end f you come and get it.

Dbusted440, thanks for the offer, if you were a little closer I would take you up on the offer. I wised up and am going to go the 8 3/4 route. I am going to ask around and look at the Mopar nationals in August. A bodies are hard to find in my area or any Mopars. I really don't need a 7.25 behind this
