Need some info on Custom hood hinges

So on my 65 Dart I eliminated the torsion rods for the hood hinges and am looking to do either a gas strut system or I was going to get crazy and put electric actuators. My question is I can modify the stock hinges because they are floppy as hell and put some gas struts, but they have to be some pretty strong struts to hold that heavy hood open. Has anyone experimented with this type of setup?

Check my build, I used gas struts and billet hinges....
