500 miles on new motor - ready to change oil - going to add break-in additive regardless but was wondering if I can go with a quality oil or do I need to stay with Rotella or VR-1 for another cycle ?

I presume you have a flat tappet cam. Nothing wrong with adding a zinc additive.

As far as oil,choose a brand that you like and go with it,youll be fine.
