Hey guys, I'm new here. I'm Lance, I'm 24 from Ohio. I'm a long time GM guy, and Ford as well. I have had several Camaros and other GM cars, and a few Cobra mustangs. I currently have a 1967 Camaro with a BBC, and a 2014 GT500 Mustang. Always had a soft spot for the old mopars though. I recently worked out a deal with one of my best friends for a ride of his that I've had my eye on since he picked up. It's a 1969 Barracuda 340, I'm told a Formula S car, but not sure? Originally had a 4 speed from what I can tell, now has a reverse manual vb 727 though. It's fairly clean, needs a little TLC like anything, but is a nice running driving car. Hoping I can learn a lot about the A bodies on this forum, because I know nothing about Mopars and have a lot of questions. I'd also love to find out how I could figure out what the original color of this car was. Thanks!

You can find out almost everything about it by decoding the tag numbers.
If needed, post your tag numbers and someone can help with the decode.

Great looking car. Welcome to the site. The first thing you will find out about old Mopars is everything is expensive. Just a warning. Lol

I've been hearing that for years from my Mopar buddies. I'm not too thrilled about that LOL!

Welcome from Fredericksburg, VA.

Here is what I came up with from the fender tag you showed:

BH29:
Plymouth Barracuda
High
2 Door Sports Hardtop

P9B: 340 275HP 1-4BBL 8 CYL
1969 Dodge Main, Hamtramck, MI, USA
259268: Sequence number

E55: 340 cid 4 barrel V8 275hp
D21: 4 Speed Manual Transmission
Y2 : Unknown Exterior Color (Y2 as an exterior color in 1969 was Sunfire Yellow)
Y2: Trim - Unknown, Vinyl Bench Seat, Unknown Color
H6X: Unknown Int. Door Frames
X9: Build Date: 9
116: Order number

C16: Unknown Top Color
C55: Bucket Seats
G15: Tinted Windshield
M21: Roof drip rail moldings
M31: Belt Moldings
R11: Radio Solid State AM (2 Watts)

V6X: Longitudinal Stripes, Black
END: End of Sales Codes

Not sure if I was able to read the codes exactly, but someone else might be able to chime in.

I played with that same decoder but went with the format of the bottom boxes to the top, because the second row was short 1 box compared with the number of codes on the fender tag, I read the tags second line from right to left, then took the second "Y2" code and started the 3rd row and kept filling boxes with the rest of the codes until I got to the word "END" (4 rows used, 3 used on the top row of codes) and I got this result.

And got no unknown codes.

Welcome to FABO. You got yourself a super nice car there, Red or Yellow :D. I'd love to hear some engine/combo details, and a few pics of the compartment.

Enjoy it, and don't be shy with info/pics of your other cars. I'd love to see them too. :thumleft:

The engine bay is ugly. I want to pull the motor and trans like NOW to clean it up and give it a spray paint tune up, but going to try to hold off and wait until next winter. I know nothing about the engine, other than it is a 1969 340 which I'm guessing is original. It has a small cam in it from the sounds of it, an old Edelbrock Torker aluminum intake, longtube headers, and a holley 750dp.

Here's the other toys.
