new guy with 69 swinger

hi recently got a f8 green 69 340 4 speed swinger in need of some interior and finishing. got the windshield and dash out but my buddy unbolted the clutch over-center spring bracket from brake/column bracket. spring has so much tension and cannot seem to be able to get enough pull to get back in line. thanks for any suggestions
