1973 Gold Duster, 318, bucket seats, 4 Speed Manual. $5500
My wife and I have had this Duster for about 5 years. We have been restoring it and collecting the missing pieces and correcting issues from the privious owner.
We first rebuilt all replaced all the suspension- tie rods, ball joints, polyurethane bushings, bump stops, etc. The car had already been converted to front disk brakes, so we replaced and serviced the front brakes. Car had dual bolt pattern wheels. Front disks were the larger pattern and rear was the old 5 on 4 I believe. Relized there weren't many wheel options for this pattern, so we had Moser make us some axles for the 8 3/4 rear with the bigger bolt pattern. Installed new rear drums and found/ installed all the missing parking brake components. Then ordered custom Torque Thrust wheels to optimize tire size for the rear. 18s in the back and 16s up front. The rear wheels were custom made with the exact backspacing to run the fattest tire without altering the rear end. (wife had a good job at the time) The stance is nasty!
The car had been converted from a slant 6 to a 318 by the privious owner, but they didn't have the correct Clutch linkages for a small block. Sourced and fixed that and replaced all the bushings. Had the trans professionally rebuilt. The 318 is tired, but runs well and doesn't have any leaks. We replaced the starter, fuel pump, battery, and alternator. It had an Edlebrock carb with electric choke. Installed Hooker Competition ceramic headers and new exhaust. Now that the exterior looked good minus paint, and the car ran and sounded great, we turned our attention to the interior. We had the guages and dash rebuilt and corrected all the wiring issues, to include a custom dash pad with "Gold Duster" embroidered. The wipers were missing linkages. Soursed and repaired that. The door locks and handles didn't work properly and were broken. Sourced and repaired the internal for the doors. The windows were rough and rattled. Rebuilt the regulators and replaced all the rollers. Car had 1969 buckets. Sourced and replaced with correct 1973 buckets with ALL the trim and plastics. Sourced INTACT, non-cracked upper door pannels.
The seats need to be recovered. Car needs new headliner and package tray. Carpet is new. Need new shifter boot. Rear end is geared pretty high and could use better gears and a sure grip in the future.
The body has its original paint job and no bondo. It has never been wrecked. Has small patchable holes in each rear quarter - about 2x 4 inches each. That's the only rust on the whole car to include floor pans and everything else you can't see. Right door has deep scratch/ VERY small crease horizonally. New striping kit is included in the purchase.
Just had a kid and the wife doesn't want to go back to work so I'm selling the Duster. Its titled and driven on occasion, but less than 500 miles on everything we've done. We've got about 12000 in the car but due to our circumstances, first person with 5500 cash takes it. The body is solid and ready for paint. Electrical and mechanical is done. Interior is ready to be installed and you've got a rare show car. The hard work is done!
