For the last 19 years I have worked a rotating "swing shift" 4 weeks of days, 4 weeks of nights. I'm sure some of yall remember about 4 years ago I got a supervision job I was a department supervisor. A year ago I got a shift supervisor job. We'll Friday morning my boss called me into his office and he is moving me to a new position. (I didn't get an option I was told lol) but I am going straight days Monday thru Friday. I get to pick my own hours he said he would be flexible and I could basically come and go as I please as long as I'm getting in 40 hours and making progress on is "special assignment". So I'm gonna try to work 5am-2pm. That will give me 5 hours of overtime every week and give me the option of leaving 5 hours early on Fridays if needed. The special assignment is process improvement in one department. So instead of 100 people I will only have 4 to oversee! It's gonna be nice. The bad news is this particular cell is failing miserably. The crews are understaffed and undertrained. They are basically a bunch of kids that are very hard to manage. But I will be spending time with all 4 shifts eventually to help train and improve the process within all four shifts. I was given zero instruction or direction so the agenda is completely up to me to figure out lol. I chose 5-2 because we work 7-7 on shift so that will give me 2 hours with the out going shift and a training opportunity to teach them how to set the incoming shift up for success! And it will be nice to get home before 3 everyday lol that will give me all summer to work on my car in the evening! I start the new role on Monday it's gonna be alot of hard work and it's going to get stressful but I'm excited to not have to swing shifts at least for a while! Once the job is complete I'm sure I'll go back to swing so I'm gonna enjoy it while I can. If the job is not successful and I fail I'll probably be unemployed and won't have to worry about it lol.

I wish you the best. I’ve worked a lot of mids, but mostly swings.
On days for the last year and it sure is nice. I hope it works well for you.
Thanks I appreciate it. I did 7-7 for about 15 years then did 8-8 for close to 3 then back to 7-7 for the last year. 9 hour days are gonna go by so fast

The job I had for over 27 years started swing shifts right after I left. They work 12 hour shifts for 4 days then they are off 3 days and then they work 12 shifts on 2nd shift for 4 days and are off 3 days then they go to 3rd shift. I wouldn't have done that for any reason, it screws up your personal life it's not healthy and that's been proven. As far as working with the younger non trained people I can relate to that 100%. When I left there I was making great money, I left there almost 12 years ago. They closed the location here in Missouri and moved to Urbana Ohio, best move I ever made. The best part was making managed look bad because I was the highest seniority person there

I worked pretty much 10 hour days,6 days a week. I worked in the transformer industry so over time was plentiful. When I left I still held the record for working 10 hour shifts for 30 days straight and right before the company moved I worked 21 days 12 hours a day. The younger generation couldn't put in hours that most of us have done.

I retired at 44 years old because of those types of hours...concrete floors and 12's.....decided I could work on cars and sling parts and cars......knees were catching hell....I love networking on the internet now....you get what you put in...it's always a new horizon to explore..I love it...I'm a machinist by trade CNC set-up and design burned me out....I went to fiber optics (pvc extrusion) chasing the dollar....what a waste of more bullshit.....your hours are perfect and you deserve a break....glad you got a great shift you will have plenty of extra time for your dart and challenger now.....

I think that he'll have the time for his car's too

Congratulations! They have obviously seen the hard work and dedication that you have shown, and now you are seeing some rewards for all of your effort. Great news man, you're going to be very effective in your new role, good luck!

That's whe i was young and working on an offshore commercial scallop fishing boat . I think it's 6 and 6 now .
I couldn't do those kinds of hours, would drive me completely bat **** crazy. I did a 4 on 4 off 12 hour shift 8 to 8 for about a year and a half, primarily days, but at one point I was vacation relief for the night shift and ended up doing 16 straight night shifts due to the untimely passing of a co-worker.

You're a good kid, even if you do look like a backwoods moonshine sellin hillbilly. lol
Lol yea my old boss asked me to shave one time to look more "professional" that's back when I had the long hair too. I just laughed and said nah ill pass. He called me Charlie Daniels "long haired country boy" lol

It was more of a mental strain than physical , i only done it for 2 winters made some big money then got my own boat .
