i have a 96 mitsubishi eclipse that is turboed and if i let it sit for awhile it will lose all battery and have to recharge it. well after it runs for awhile it will die and the battery will be completely drained causing it to not be able to restart. anyone know of what to look for and to diagnose it?

Could it be a bad alternator?

It does sound like the charging system is not working. If battery is full and you run it for awhile and then the battery is dead it is not charging. Could be alt or the alt is not being switched on, by ignition or regulator. The regulator on that is probably built in the alt.

I'd say it's a good bet your alternator is not working. You can have it tested before you shell out big bucks for a new one however.
