Will the axles from an gen I Dakota swap out with the axles from a gen III Dakota? Both rears are 8-1/4. Need to keep the 6 bolt axles and the rear I have a lead on is an earlier 5 bolt axle rear... Can I simply swap the axles/drums and be good to go? it is a 3.55 limited slip/sure grip with only 120k on it. I can get it for $80 or less.

In '97 the spline count went from 27 to 29. I believe the 6 lug axles are 29 spline and the 5 lug are 27.
