do the number of notches on the gears indicate a special gearset or does it mean a certain ratio?I'm trying to put a trans together with all these parts from a pile and want to get them matched correctly. Thanks!Bob

No notches around the teeth don't mean anything. Cluster gears can be identified by the number of rings ground around the gear shaft.
The only way to put a gearset together from a pile of parts is by counting all the teeth, and matching the correct number of teeth on the speed gear to the correct number of corresponding teeth on the cluster gear.

thanks for all the answers Outsider!it's gonna be fun counting all those teeth and getting them matched again!should have left the boxes together but it was a lot easier to move around in pieces. Thanks again!Bob

gearsets do have notches , I think the 2.47 gear set has 3 notches . can't remeber whats on the cluster gear fot that seat though , don't have one , other than a 71 hemi set , in my stash
