Nova SS 396 sells for 250,000

It doesn't matter what your driving if the person behind the wheel can't handle the hp he's going to see tail lights. People seem to forget the person behind the wheel!
My wife keeps telling me about some nut that is loose behind the wheel. I looked and didn't see. Then she mentioned the mirror so looked at it. Mirror was fine. I think she don't know what she's talking about, total waste of my time.

The 325 hp 396, was easily 100hp less than the "375".hp version. (REAL numbers, not rated ones)
The very same engine was rated at 425 in a 65 vette.....

We always laughed at Chevrolet hp numbers and numbers matching cars. A Chevrolet engine was not a long lived engine. Corvette guys were even more clueless. How does one engine rate 375 hp and the exact same engine rate 450 hp in a different car? I'll spare you guys the stories.

I see all the crave about the 375/396 Nova and it's power. Couple pages into it and I see we have a high 13/low 14 second ride? High 12's with slicks?? Man, my 360 D150 runs that... Still, nice car though :)

The guy paid more for that Vette (Corvette to the Corvette guys), so the advertised hp was more, on paper anyway!!! :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

The first ride in Ron’s black Nova was the first time I got a bit scared in a street car before we got to 60 mph.

And for additional perspective, with my GTS, I never lost a street race to any Chevelle, Camaro or Nova with a 325hp 396/402.

The L78 was a different animal.
I.remember Roger Huntingtons tests, way WAY back when, said the 325horse 96 was about 20 or 30 down to a 335hp 383 Magnum.

Absolutely true. Ratings were manipulated by the big three mercilessly. 360hp 350 in a 70 camaro, 370 for the same motor in a 70 vette. Boss 302, and Z28 302, both rated at 290. Really made closer to 350. 335hp 390 in a 68 mustang, 428 cobra jet in a 68 Mustang? 335 hp. Riiiiight!
396 in a 65 vette, 425 hp, but 375 in a Chevelle. 396 425hp in 65, grows to 427, in 66, same heads and Cam and everything. Apparently 31 inches don't mean anything at all, cause the 66 was 425 hp too. The next year, the L88 was "430" hp. Yeah, it might have been.... at the 5200 rpm it was rated. Too bad, it was a 6500 (or more) rpm engine. Kinda like the Hemi was rated at 425 hp, at about 600 rpm below the true power peak.
