I'm looking for some diagnostic software for a laptop. At my shop we use the Snap-On Modis system but that thing is expensive. I'm looking for something similar but alot cheaper and in software form that would allow me to use my laptop to read the codes and run tests etc...Any one have any experience with something like this?

Do you have a smart phone? There is an app called "Torque" which can do a lot. You need an OBDII Bluetooth dongle which can be had on eBay for expensive or cheap (quality can be a crap shoot, you get what you pay for).

How in depth does that go? I'm looking for one that reads the codes, tells you what to check to fix it, and can run tests for troubleshooting.
