Of All Things Chrome

That thing's been for sale for a while. It's kinda cool. Probably pretty hard for dirt to really stick to.

Here's the actual ebay listing. Can you imagine all the work that went into that? They had to grind all the rough cast iron smooth. LOL

CHROME SLANT 6

Somebody loved them some chrome.
I cannot imagine the cost in today’s market to do that. It must had be a display piece.

Huh there's even the adapter plate to put a SB trans sandwiched in there..... That by itself has gotta be worth something
There was no chrome on the one I had, I bought a whole 64, /6 and 727 that had been sitting on a dirt, garage floor just to get those parts. I've since sold off the engine and trans as the guy wouldn't sell me just those parts....

As a showpiece: extra super cool number one.

As a runner: I'd worry hard about hydrogen embrittlement of the cast iron, given the process involved in chrome-plating. And I'd expect the chrome to want to flake off the cast iron with thermal cycling.

Also, that ain't a '64 motor (5 freeze plugs = '68-up).

Good points about being thrown into use.

And chrome looks terrible when it's dirty and oily.

That engine would look good in a car with wide open engine bay like a street rod.

I bet driving it would have so many oil leaks.from all the slick and warped gasket surfaces.

Seems like a good deal if it runs?
In what universe or timeline is $6,800 a good deal for a 225 + 727, even in perfect zero-miles condition with top-spec premium parts throughout?

Looks to me like someone trying to get out of it what they spent on it – almost certainly much too much – which in turn was probably the seller trying to uptalk fame-by-association (namedropping).

They need to make it a coffee table.
