Hey guys:

Do I need/should I use the oil filter adapter on a stock hi-mile 318 that probably won't ever see the high side of 3500 rpms?

The engine has one now but I see gasket sealer poking out from behind it....it wasn't leaking in the donor vehicle but I just am wary of that.

If I go to a non-adapter arrangement, what would I need to change besides removing the adapter?

This is an A-body with no headers in the future.

Thanks...

cant say for sure but i pulled mine and cut a gasket similar to a carb to breather gasket out of gasket material from auto parts store. worked great

If you are going to remove it you will need the hollow stud the filter spins onto and the plate with the holes the filter seals against and a new gasket to seal the plate.

The advantage of the adapter is it allows the use of a bigger filter which is always a good thing (more oil and more filter media). The down side is the oil has to go around a couple of more corners.

If it were me I would leave it on and use the bigger filter.
