This is an old one.

I am trying the “long screwdriver” removal technique and it won’t budge. Any other suggestions that don’t involve removing the engine, oil pan or oil pump?

I have squirted everything I could see from the top with lots of PB Blaster. Gonna stop for the night before I get real stupid and go medieval on it.

Put a slotted screw driver in the slot. Turn and pull as best you can. Turning the engine over by hand can help twist it out...
Thanks. I will try turning engine by hand, or can I just “bump” the starter?

Need to be turning the screwdriver at the same time. And turning the engine opposite running direction. Should not take much to get it to lift

Turn the gear counter clockwise it won't turn but should lift up and out...

Right now, I even tried a really long screwdriver with a vise-grip on the shaft for more torque - no movement either way. I will continue to try the least intrusive solutions tomorrow.

If the engine has been in use for a long time, might have baked-on crud on the shaft & the shaft will not come past the bush until said crud is removed.

I used a loop of #12 wire to get under it and pull up. You don’t have to get around it all the way as the teeth will tend to hold the wire from slipping off. A couple of quick pulls and it should come out.
