oil pump drive question

number 1 piston is at top dead centre with both valves shut and i,ve installed my gear pump drive 30 times,turning the oil pump hex trying to get the slot perfectly parralell with the cam and the best i can get it is angled before is this okay????????????????

Yup. That'll do it.
 
As long as your on number one TDC that will be just fine. You can set the timing with where it is at. Though they are usually installed closer to paralell. Make sure the oil pump drive hasn't twisted.
 
Also make sure you're DEAD on TDC.
 
I remember just seeing a thread on here about a month ago that showed a factory diagram of the slot pointing to forward most intake bolt. This would make the slot slightly angled from parallel.
