oil pump gasket or no ?

-
I've heard it's optional. If the surfaces are nice and smooth, I can't see losing any measurable pressure to speak of after torqued ?

I talked about this with my machinist recently. He says if you have one use it. If you don't - no worries - he is against using any sealant there as well. Although logically speaking - it couldn't hurt since the oil going thru there has to be filtered before going to the bearings or anywhere else else. I like the nasty old permatex #1 or 2 for something like that.

I think I am going to not use the one I have. Reason is what happens over time when the gasket compresses because you aren't going to be going in there and retorqueing the bolts. Plus I measured 80 PSI of oil pressure spinning the pump with a drill with no gasket in place so I know its not needed.

I did... can't tell you if it works but I guess when you combined to machined surfaces like that it needs a gasket. i.e. head to block. Make sure you put some permetex sealant between the rear main cap and block or it will leak.
