this popped up on my Facebook timeline today. I posted this about my old 1974 Duster that I raced in the 1980’s. Best ET ever was a 9.82 with a stock crank, stock rod, 906 headed, .030 over TRW piston 440. Lots of good times. My now 30 year old son is sitting in the front of the quad. Back when I was still married, had more hair, more energy, and way less skin. Around five years ago I bought the other Duster that sooner or later I would like to be a semi fast heads up car. Hope to finish it this winter.

I thought you were getting close on the heads up car? That's one I'd love to see finished.

I've said it before, but racing in the late 70's and early 80's...even into the 90's was way better than it is now. The people were different. It was just better. For me anyway.

Ya there is to much what I call cheating now that goes unchecked. Even our local track has the equipment to check for bracket cars pulling timing but they won’t use it. Engine and transmission are in the car and the headers only need me to lay out the egt’s probs and O2 bungs and weld them in. Driveshaft needs shortened and I’m going to set up some rearend gears I have here. Master cylinder needs move over and I have the kit for that. I haven’t touched it for 3 months because of Racing my black bracket Duster, laziness, and right now lack of interest. Ohhh Racepak and nitrous progressive needs wired in and lots of little items. The car will cert to 6.0 but I’m certing for 7.50 as the 6.0 is only good for 2 years.

Enlighten me here. There are track rules against retarding the timing in bracket racing?

And not sore every day of your life. Lol
You learn to ignore the pain and just get on with life.....as time passes you will learn there are just things you can't do anymore or maybe can't do as well or as often but its the best its going to be. Your memories become more important and sometimes they are hard to live with.

Not if you manually retard or Advance your timing. But guys are use a Grid system or a modified msd6 box to pull timing at the starting line using it as traction control and then bringing it back in while going down the track. I raced against The Dirty Dozen years ago and if you don’t know that story research it.

I started to use CDB oils this year for my knees and it’s helped me some. Being a Millwright in a steel mill beat my body up pretty good but I loved the work. At least most of it.

Funny, I was a Journeyman Millwright for United States Steel for 13 years until they closed the plant then I ended up at Westinghouse in Blairsville for many years at the Specialty Metals Plant. I retired as a supervisor for a company in Rochester, NY due to my right knee in 2013, just couldn't deal with the pain and swelling anymore. Yes the work is interesting and for the most part, good but it just became tough to do the work and enjoy life. I had 3 operations on my right knee and they finally told me they couldn't do anything else for me short of a replacement, I retired 2 weeks later.

I bought a power grid for my car, that's why I asked. Never heard they were illegal. The only thing I heard was illegal is the driveshaft
Speed sensor deal. Your saying the power grid not legal to use?

The Grid itself is legal. Some of the stuff you can do with a Grid and modified msd box isn’t. Now remember we are talking bracket racing here. Read your rule book about “timed events”

Agreed, certain of the add on modules are not legal, but you mentioned retarding the timing to aid traction. That is precisely why I bought the grid. But it is just a tuning aid. There can be no driveshaft speed control, just monitoring for tuning.
I read up on the dirty dozen deal, sounds like that's when the driveshaft speed sensors were being used to control the et. I could see that as cheating. Another device to see when the tree is activated would be another. I agree the rule book says no down track timed events, but that's not the same as a 3rd gear timing retard or advance.

I like mufflers on my car because number one I like the sound. Number two using alcohol I needed to run the exhaust back and out from under the car anyway. But the reason mufflers became popular years back is to hide what was going on at the starting line.
