Besides being on FABO every night , I also play online Poker , PokerStars actually. When Theresa and I moved here back to Florida our local watering hole has a Poker League that plays on Sat @3pm. Called High Stax Poker. We play Texas Hold EM... So I joined the league and play mostly to meet people, since we're new here.
Well to make a long story shorter, the league puts on a regional tournament every Quarter of the year for all the players from all the regional venues that play in this league. This league is not for $$$$$$$$. But Points.
Anyway last Sunday I played the regional tournament. Had 45 of the top players from the area. 5 tables of 9. Played 2 tournaments . Finished 2nd in the 1st & 1st in the 2nd !
Over all 1st by points. Now that gets me a free seat in a big regional and National tournament in Orlando some time next year. For some pretty big Cash !!!!!

That's me with the 2 7 !

Anyone else into Hold Em ?

Never really understood poker, how can someone excel at the game when its mostly just luck of the draw? Ive always assumed that its more of a skill at bluffing, but Im probably wrong :)

I've been through a few phases of being into 5 and 7 card nickel, dime, quarter poker, but I never got into Texas Hold em.

My best moment was when I was the "new guy" at work, and me and the next newest guy got invited to a game where the older guys thought they were going to take our money.

Well, I finished second at the "kiddie table" winning $60 and my friend finished first with $120.

I moved on to the "adult table" and in what turned out to be the last hand, had to go out to my truck and write a check to stay in.

I ended up winning with the low straight flush I was dealt to the tune of $350.

Needless to say, there were a LOT of grumbling old timers walking to their cars that evening.

ive always been more of a euchre fan, still a big part of it is luck of the draw though

I think euchre may be a Midwest thing, as while we used to play it often enough when we were "Up North" fishing or hunting (along with cribbage), I have family and friends in more southern portions of the Country who have never heard of it. Of course I could be wrong about that...

Haven't played it in over 20 years myself, and I don't know that I could right out of the gate, as it can be a little confusing.

you may be on to something, we usually start a game by going "hey, you're from Michigan, you play euchre, right?"

having said that, i suspect the games origin is German, because that the only way it makes sense to call a Jack a Bauer (of course, the Jack is called a Bube in German, Bauer means farmer)

then again, in Dutch a Jack is called a farmer (Boer) which sounds a little like Bauer, so maybe it was Dutch, then stolen by the Germans and brought to the Midwest?

Either/both seem reasonable to me, as there are a lot of Northern European Lutherans in northern, MN.

That sounds like a good time playing poker for points so no one gets hurt. I'd like to get in a league if there was one in my area. On line can be fun but you always get a couple jokers (no pun ) who screw up the game.

I mostly play small local games, but lately I’ve been messing around online just for fun. I tried out an ETH casino a buddy told me about, kind of cool since it uses crypto instead of regular money. The games move fast, and no need to link a bunch of banking stuff, which is a plus. Just make sure the site’s solid before playing.
