I have been reading several other forum discussions about a Chevy HHR Electric Fan..?
Several other discussions on Chevy, Ford and other Mopar forums about a 2006 Chevy HHR electric fan module pulling lots of CFM's....anybody using one...anyone know how many CFM's/Amps they pull? My wifey has a 2006 HHR and I measured the entire fan module today...it is 26" wide and about 17" tall...looks like it would fit perfectly on a 26" radiator....

Here goes a couple of the links....take a read...someone is even using a Class C Mercedes fan module....

My HHR fan and connector showed up today...mopower's reply gave a good link to show three different fans...the HRR starts at 4 1/16" thick...you gain 1/2" buy cutting the back of the plastic covering off and another 1/8" off buy grinding the stand offs off...that reduces it to 3 7/16" deep...that will put me real close to where I need to be before doing any other hacking on the radiator support..

I picked up my spare 26" downflow radiator at my storage today...
The HHR fan does not cover the entire radiator...and it would take some work...but I will look into it farther....I put a piece of aluminum stock behind it to show one option to mount it...it would be at 3 1/2" from the radiator core...I need better than that because the front snout of the pulley is at 3 1/3"...not giving up yet...

Nice thread keep us posted
Here you go...ordered the Summit crossflow radiator today and clearanced the HHR fan...used my die grinder with carbide bit to remove 1/2" off the back...

removed fan and finished the clearance

fan installed after clearance...

Couldn't stand by idle and just wait for the transmission to show up so I started it.

Took the radiator out last night after draining it...got the grill, condensor coil and other things out to get ready to do some cutting tomorrow...will keep you posted on my progress heres a couple with everything removed...

Hey Eric which rad did you get from Summit?

Thanks..............Ted

bmw radiators fit real nice in a bodies.
they have electric fans already...

3 series-early a bodies
5-7 series-later a bodies

I have one behind my 410, 340

Hacked on it some this weekend to install the radiator forward...it's a lot of work so far and had to fab a new bottom for the radiator opening...It supports the latch assembly....all will be stealth again with black paint after mock up....

real big opening now...

IMG00302-20100530-2110.jpg

front support made out of aluminum angle...

Big cubes but still a shorter and not as tall big block....very...very little room left in front to fit a fan....8)

:happy1: Give you a litte more time to eat the popcorn....got the radiator and fan in tonight after drilling two holes in the aluminum angle for the latch support...not done yet as the back of the fan motor hits the nose of the water pump...have a new piece showing up tomorrow to see if it will help with the clearance before I do anymore hacking...I can grind out a little more material on the tank sides and gain another 3/8 of an inch..I think about different ways to do things before making a radical mistake..I guess that's just my personality...here goes some pics..

upside down with the electrical pigtail clears everything else..right side up and the pigtail hits the crank pulley....go slow..

You should have a lot more room than that.
Maybe a pusher would have been the ticket?
I was running a 18" flex fan on a two inch spacer and two 12" pushers on the front with the smaller 22" opening in the radiator support..don't worry I will get it in there...that torque strap really holds the engine down

Thanks nasty...check out my savior that showed up today 35/37 GPM MEZ-WP105S from Summit....old 440 Source pump length first then the new electric pump

IMG00310-20100601-2153.jpg

Kinda crooked but more than a 1/2" difference...

IMG00313-20100601-2200.jpg

Here we go it's got plenty of clearance now....beware that you may not need to move your radiator forward if you use the same setup as me...the electric water pump did the trick..but remember I need the extra clearance for the A/C compressor...check it out.. I am pleased now...just need how to figure out how to mount the fan to the raditator...

the old one out and the new one in...

IMG00314-20100602-2021.jpg

lots of clearance....

Getting closer .....Remember that I really didn't want to cut on it but....

To all that don't like it.....To the rest thanks...got the radiator mounted with some bolts so I could see about the condensor coil clearance and a way to mount it on one side I should be able to bolt it on, the other side I will have to fab up some brackets...still thinking of a way to mount the fan to the radiator...remember that all of the bracketry will be stealth black...here goes two pics

Just to throw this into the mix, I've heard that Ford Crown Vics have dual fans that push 4000 cfm and are pretty easy to modify to fit just about anything. supposedly they are very easy to find at the local you-pull-it too.

Just food for thought is all.

I got my condensor coil mounted today...will jack her up and remove the tranny lines tomorrow so that I can lift the fan up from the bottom of the car..I have some more brackets that I am going to use on the top and bottom of the radiator to mount the fan...
