Need some help making decision on air cleaner and whether to cut the hood opening larger on my 64 Valiant. (My preference is to not cut anymore. But if I do I do not want to cut the cross members.)

I have some questions about some air cleaner choices. Here is background and pics.

I am trying to measure what size air filter I can get in to replace that triangle one. Apparently they can cause fires if they backfire. The foam is also disintegrating inside the filter. Not good! It is real difficult trying to get exact measurements inside the hood and scoop then positioning that to the centre of the carb. The hole cut into the hood is 12 inches in diameter but not perfectly round as you can see (not done by me). I also dont think it is centered properly. Seems the largest pie filter I can fit is 10 inches with only a 2 inch filter. The carb has a 2 in spacer added so I guess I could replace it with a 1 inch to gain some height room. Carb is a Holley 650 manual choke carb and Holley manifold. Engine is a built 1971 360 generating around 450 HP. Current engine bay pictures. Also prefer not to cut up the hood anymore but we can discuss that. Current engine bay pics and more comments:

Here is the hole cut in the hood in relation to carb. The flange seems to be parallel with the hole. Aircleaner is 3 inches high and I have about 1 inch before it hits the tops of the hood.

So here are 2 options I was looking at getting and some questions.

By my measurements I believe a 10 inch pie with 2 in filter would fit with no further cutting. I was looking at this one.

Or

An 11 inch K&N Xstream with 2 in filter. This most likely will NOT fit and will require further cutting but I don't think I have to cut the cross member. I've never cut into a hood before so I am trying to avoid it if possible.

I would like a taller filter with the Xstream but they seem to only make the drop base models for 14 inch cleaners.

Questions:

Would I see a large performance difference between the 10 in Edelbrock vs 11 inch K&N? Any drop base options for the 11 inch K&N?

Is it worth changing the 2 in spacer to get more height for taller filter?

What would you do in this case?

(I also have the original hood newly painted as a spare but wanted to keep that one original. Here is picture of car and second hood.)

engine parts protruding through the hood is a good thing, unless they are protruding through the hood due to something going BOOM.

If you get rid of the 2" spacer then a standard drop 14" air cleaner would work also. That spacer might have to go, unless you cut the hood more.

What do you want to achive in the end?

I have 2 of the smaller 1ns of the 6 cylinders or I have 2 that came of the 273 motor .I almost burned my car down with 1 of those junk foam *** triangles just like you said , backfired pm me for a telly # or we can figure out a price, if you did it up right it would look awesome , in there, nice ride
