My dad and I are putting the finishing touches on a 440 for his 65 Belvedere. We were looking in the service manual, and it says that Mopar did not have a 440 in 1965...the first year they came out was in 1966. The date code on our block is August of 1965. This is not the original engine for his car, but it is cool that it is a 1965 casting...

Do you think it was an early casting 440 for the soon to be released 1966 models?

It is definitely a 440, no question.

What do you guys think?

Thank You!

Yes, early casting 1966 440. 1968 was the first year for the 340 and there are 1967 casting blocks out there too.

That's a very early 440. You'd be hard pressed to find one earlier. Unfortunately its not worth anything more than any other 440 but what the hey....

I have a block just like that. A 440 with a 65 casting date. Some one had it apart and rebuilt it as it had 915 heads on it. I believe those were 67 heads. Some times we find some real odd combinations that someone put together.

Back then just like today, car companies start making their new year models about July of the previous year. My 68 Dart was built on August 28, 1967 and the block has a July of 67 casting date.

Thanks to all of you. That is what we suspected. It did throw both of us for a loop while we tried to figure out what we actually had.

Again, thank you all for your confirmation.
