So am almost done with the restoration for the upholstery, carpet and door panels. Have more pics I’ll post.

Started by removing the original front and back seats.

Removed carpet and cleaned grime and light surface rust.

Removed door panels front and rear.

Cleaned up the trunk and cleaned the floor.

I’ll post more in a bit!

The 1st coat of POR-15 went easy. 2 hours later I applied the 2nd coat and it was real smooth. Love how the paint expands and brush strokes are gone. It also comes in spray cans but I recommend using paint and brush so there’s no overspray and less cleanup unless the entire car is stripped. That paint goes a LONG way and you only need a little

Installed Siless Black 50mm sound deadening. Applies that all over the floors and trunk. I then applied the Car Heat Sound insulator 400 mills and it sure makes a difference! Added it to truck even where spare tire sits.

The seats were next. The foam was already pressed under the springs - that’s how old it was. I removed EVERYTHING, wire-brushed, cleaned and then sprayed a black anti rust enamel.

Very nice. I wish my floor had been in that kind of shape. It’s also a convertible. After several patches, dozens of small pinholes, etc, I covered it with Rustoleum Rust Converter today. I used some long-strand bondo around the large patch (about 12” x 3”) just to reinforce it. Tomorrow I’m going to re-apply seam sealer as necessary, then spray it with some 3M stuff like undercoat, but it’s actually similar to what they put inside on the quarter panels in the trunk from the factory. After all that, I’ll be ready to install all the new Legendary upholstery I had a local guy wrap around my old seat frames. Also replacing all interior panels, carpet, arm rests, kick panels, etc. It’s a convertible, but I was still surprised at the amount of rust in the floor pans. Thanks for the pictures. I may try the POR when I do the trunk (which is in pretty good shape.) I did use their phosphoric acid on the rusted areas on my floor before I sprayed the Rustoleum on it. And a big wire wheel. Which is when the holes started appearing.

Oh wow looking good! Btw one quart of POR-15 goes a long ways. It was enough for 2 coats front, rear and trunk and I still had more left.

Can’t wait to see your upholstery. I am finished with the upholstery I got from Legendary Interiors as well and new panels. So I’ll post tomorrow when it’s in.

Keep it up it’s looking good man!

My car has a black interior too. It really sets off the yellow paint. Black on black is also good, as is white with black. My bucket frames were in pretty good shape and the upholsterer just re-sprayed them as you did. The rear bench was another story. At some point a mouse had set up housekeeping in the bottom cushion and rusted the frame completely through. The springs were ok. Convertible benches are narrower than coupe benches and hard to find. I wound up scavenging some of the metal from my donor car bench (a two door post car) and reshaping it to repair the convertible benches. It came out ok but involved a lot of welding, cutting, and grinding. Pictures are attached. One interesting thing I found out was that the driveline hump is not symmetrical and is offset due to the rear end placement.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Oh wow that rear bench sure looks like a project! Totally worth it though. The guys at Legendary make the upholstery videos looks so fast and easy haha! Yeah I’ll send you some pics

I have a couple of friends back in Mo. that are self taught body men, but one day they decided to learn to do auto upholstery. Bought a commercial machine and before long were absolute experts, even do door panels.
I figured out long time ago, I too much on my plate to do even try to fix seats and install Legendary stuff. I have done headliners, and hate that! Solution??? Sand the roof, epoxy prime it, and spray it with Body Schultz undercoat! Seats??? No one will ever ride in my back seat, so why even have one?? Door panels? If I have some good ones, install...maybe! The older I get, the less "fluff" I need!
Seats?? If it is sorta a hot rod SmittyBilt Jeep CJ5 repops are cheap and fit my a**!!!!!
Carpet? Only if it does not leak any water..anywhere!!!! :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

New carpet is in. Reupholstered seats and bench are in. Just need to get a black carpet in trunk to look good. I want it without gaps. I even resurfaced and painted the armrests on doors front and rear and applied a clear UV resistant coat. Original Mopar Radio works too!

Nicely done! It looks great.

Beautiful. Even though this post is about upholstery, how about a picture of the whole car/engine? I think black is a great color on a ‘66. Your avatar pic is a teaser!
