So I do not have a lot of knowledge about trannys. But I have a 727 in my car and I was wondering if it is possible to put an overdrive on it? If so, is it tough or expensive?
Thanks

Yes, yes, and yes. It is possible to add overdrive to a 727. Gearvendors makes an add on unit that replaces the tailshaft of the transmission. There is a bit of floor surgery needed to make room for it and the cost of the unit runs around $2500-$3000. It would be cheaper to swap in a 518 from a truck or van but you will still need to cut the floor.

Oh well that is good info. Thank you. I was only really wanting to do it if it was easy. My car has highway gears it is not bad on the interstate anyway. But thanks for the reply

Yeah, the gearvendors unit is both complicated and expensive.
The features and benfits are cool though.
You can run a 4.56 gear set and still cruise the highway like you have 3.23's.

What it does is split the internal transmission gear ratios 50%...therefore making a 727 3 speed automatic a 6 speed automatic....it can absorb upto 2500hp so it should never fail.

If I had an unlimited bank roll...you can rest assured I would have one on whatever I drove that wasn't O/D.

74Dart318, Go to the Phoenix Transmissions' web site. They have the
518 w/ torque conv. as a kit. Floor cutting is involved. What is nice about
the 518 is it uses the same linkage as a 727 because it is an electric OD.
