painting a chrome bumper

what kind of prep work does it take to paint a chrome bumper, does it need to be sand blasted, or can it be wire wheeled or scuffed with 60 grit? thanks for your help!!

id blast it. I actually went Fiberglass and painted it lol. I just HATED those big thick with rubber bumpers sticking out all over 1973 bumpers....I MAY be able to stand them with the rummer pieces removed...ive seen cars that had them off with the chrome that looked quite nice actually..But in a pinch i think you could wire wheel it and then scuff it down...but id rather blast it.
