Replacing the parking brake cable on my '64 Barracuda. The old cable is broken off just behind the cross member supporting the transmission. I need to replace the entire cable. The cable sheath is throughly rusted to the cross member. Does anyone have experience or advise in removing the brake cable? Pics attached.
Thanks, Ken

  1. Clean off the gunk to see what you are working with
  2. If it has fingers that spread to lock the cable to the frame get a long socket that just fits over the end and tap it on the squeeze the fingers in
  3. Pull the shifting out of the frame

If housing retaining clips/tangs are rusty you may be able to simply drive the housing out, shearing off those clips/tangs. More possibility of success if housing is not rusted to brace it passes thru.
