Parking light lens

I have a question about the parking light lens' on a 70 Dart Swinger. I have seen the surrounding be all black around the lens and I have also seen the "fins" be silver like the rest of the grill. Which is correct, all black, or black with silver fins? I have seen NOS of both styles.

Well I am pretty sure it should look like this. I think the people with black ones just did not wan't to mask them off and paint them.

Were the grilles different colors between '70 & '71?
I thought the '70 grille was silver (to match the light argent rallye wheel center caps), while the '71 grille was black (to match the dark argent rallye wheel center caps).

The black ones were used on 1970 Dart 340 cars and 1971 Darts. The silver painted fins were standard on non 70 340 Darts. Compare my 318 70 to burnt's 70 340...

When I purchased my Dart ( unrestored and probably original)the grill was painted black BUT the edges ( opposite side of fin from radiator) of the fins were silver.

But when I bought reproduction turn signal lenses , the manufacturer had painted the fins all black.

Not really sure what is right. I am also confused.

That is how mine was too. But I liked the all black look better. So when I repainted it I blacked the whole thing out.


I have an old pic some where of the grill before I painted it. I need to scan it and put up here. I will try to do that when I get home.

Here is a picture of my car before and after restoration to show how the grill did look when I " think" it was original as compared to mpainting it to match signal lenses bought from a reproduction supplier.
I was thinking of painting the fins silver ut it looks very time consuming.

Repainting the fins silver is a tedious task, I did it. Now my I need to get two new turn signal lens and I dont know which I should get, all black, or black and silver. I will have my wife decide since it is her car. Worst case is I have to repaint the inner part of the grill black, Oh well.
