I walked into a CarQuest today for a tube of RTV Black to install my intake manifold it was freakin almost 8 bucks! A little tube of seam sealer was $17 and a can of Right Stuff was 25 dollars! WTF is going on?

....my auto parts store here in West Plains, Mo,(Orielly's) and do a comparison and post the info when i get back from town. Not familiar with the " Right Stuff " but i'll ask the guys at the store.

.....and i found the black RTV for $3.49. You may have a larger tube. The seam seal is in a caulking tube 3M All Around #08500 $16.99. The 3M sprayable is # 08374 and is $20.99. Not sure on the Right Stuff. Tell me what it is and i'll look on it also.

Thats where autoparts chains make their profit. Very little is made off the parts. I shop Dollar Store, Big Lots, etc... about once a month just to stock up on lifes condements persay. Shipping tape is a good example :)

Smallblock,

"Right Stuff" is a elastomeric rubber gasket maker that is packaged in a compressed gas can. It's made by Permatex (part # 25223) and is used by the OEMs on the assembly line. The main advantage is that it is ready to go in 1 minute versus waiting 24 hrs for RTV to cure. It is specified by Chrysler GF-44-A.

In the instructions, it says that parts can be put in use immediately. Thank goodness I bought a can a year back. I'm going to try it out as a front and rear china wall/manifold sealant and waterpump inlet housing sealer today.

I'll let everyone know if this stuff works. They claim "no leaks in a million miles of fleet testing". We'll see about that....

I was walking through the aisle of this store and uttered "Holy crap!". They heard me and said, "Yeah, shipping and parts delivery is killing us." They've got a fleet of about 6 or 8 Dakotas.

These prices may be an isolated store type thing.

OK, sorry for the rant. This "price increase" was store specific, lol! Never mind.....

Wow, that's nuts. I,m fortunate that my wife works in a parts store so I get good deals but if she did not, I,m not sure I could afford to pay those crazy prices.

haha I hear ya ! went to the dodge dealership to get one tiny little bitty grommet the size of the end of your pinky just to hold the shifter linkage inplace... That cost me almost $4 !!!!!!!!

It's insane man! Then again, I got a heater control cable for the RC for about 18 bucks shipped from a friend on www.ramchargercentral.com This is the same guy who gave me the "Help" part no. for my windshield wiper linkage bushings. He's got some kind of dealership connection.
