People suck

Brother, after reading this whole thread, it appears that the damage on the car is not your issue.

It's time to dump the negativity......I read the book "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff....And it's all Small Stuff" I opened my mind to the premise of the book and it made a difference.......Buy into it. Negative thinking is the cancer.

If you can't get over this mental hump, maybe some third party help is needed. Believe me, I am not criticizing you or being a smart ***. Life throws some awful curve balls. How you handle or process them is the key to happiness.

Best of luck...I've been there.
This ^^^^ is spot on, there are deeper issues going on here Im sure
Nowhere to work, no tools, no ability. Nope.
I cannot be permitted to enjoy anything even a tiny bit.

Never been happy, never will.
And this kinda proves it. You say you arent negative enough? This whole fricking thread is filled with your negativity.
Counselling works, I suggest you get some.
As for me, Im tapping out of this self-pity party. I wish you the best of luck.

I had a girl puke on me once, while close dancing, yes, she was very drunk. Fortunately I had an extra t shirt in my car and it was not a huge volume of puke.
Thanks for bringing back this memory from 40 plus years ago!
Seems like I dated a lot of drunks myself. Super hot and makes bad choices? Yeah I'll take her. Lol. And you're welcome!

I'm beyond "not comfortable." I am completely incapable. I have the same chance of doing body work that I have of flapping my arms and soaring through the air.

Now you sound like my kid. Absolutely incapable with his hands. I tried many times to get him to do something practical, but no go.
So now he's got a good job, makes a ton of money, and has nothing at all to do with cars, which suits him just fine.

Not to sound mean, but, considering all that you've said, are you sure old cars are the thing for you?
Like, maybe some other thing would make you happier, like antique radios, or sailboats, or horses.

... I was always forced to do things I had no interest or ability to do, no matter how awful the results. A few times, self-harm was required to be permitted to STOP the futility.

Ah. Now we're getting somewhere.

So... Tell me about... your father.

Having an old muscle car, especially one that you want to keep very nice, but not having any knowledge, skills, or mechanical aptitude will only work long-term if you have an ***-ton of money and the connections to know who to call when it needs anything to keep it that way. If you don't have any of those things, AND you have a shitty outlook about people... sorry, but that poor car doesn't stand a chance of staying nice. Not even it you never drive it or take it out.

Cars need to be used & loved, and **** happens. They also need maintenance to stay nice. Everything is biodegradable and turns back to dust eventually. How soon that happens is up to the caregiver of said item. Alcohol will most certainly not help your poor car, or you. Think about letting it go to someone who has the means to give it the love it deserves. Negativity begets more negative results. Also, maybe try new things once in while, even when you have no clue about how to do it. Research and learn. And most importantly... CONTNUE TO GROW. It's the most natural thing that every human needs.
I'm sorry your car got messed up. This group is full of people who would gladly help you to make it great again, if you just changed your attitude a little.

I'm never negative enough. If I were, I wouldn't have bought the Duster.

He needs to go see a psychiatrist, or go talk to a pastor.

I'm not willing to be lobotomized, locked in a nut farm, or drugged into psychosis.

Nobody here has offered their services to repair the car, so I'm not sure you're in the correct thread. I have no interest in keeping the car and have realized that you're absolutely correct and I am, as always, stupid.

Certainly not. No ability in any of those, little to no interest (no boats, I get violently sick), and nowhere near enough money for horses or boats. At this point, I just need to accept that I'll spend the next 15-20 years driving cars I hate.

Ah. Now we're getting somewhere.

He had talent. Sadly, he didn't wear a condom.

sorry, but your attitude is the only thing that kept people away. And several people DID try to offer some advice. You were just not having it. That's on you, not the world. You need to realize that. I wish you luck in making some changes.

They offered advice. Thats well and good, but much of it, unfortunately, isn't helpful because it requires resources/skills/tools I simply don't have. I'd happily pay someone here to fix the car, but it's orders of magnitude beyond the skill of anyone I know short of a high-dollar professional shop.

I can't (literally CAN'T, I'll be evicted) do any work at home.

Aaaaaand this is where I tap out, and refer you to a specialist.

Above my pay grade.

I honestly wish you the best of luck, and hope you do find something you really enjoy, that matches your skills.

Unfortunately, actually getting any help would likely result in being unable to make a living. Like it or not, any sort of mental health treatment is essentially a scarlet letter. I'd probably have an easier time with a felony record.

My nephew replaced a hood and fender on his car by himself. Sounds to me that you wasn't given much encouragement on anything as you were growing up, you have a very low self esteem, your parents must have always told you that you couldn't do anything. If a teenager can do it there's no excuse why you can't

Did you...read the post you quoted? I have nowhere to work. I have no tools.

I was given plenty of encouragement, whether or not I had any interest or ability in the activity. (I have no musical ability whatsoever and spent several years proving it.) Some people have natural skills. (My cousin could fix anything. Sadly, he's 1000 miles away now.) Some do not. I'm group two. Bring your nephew to Carlisle and I'll happily pay him to swap the parts!

I actually just spoke to a shop owner who is a master body man. He said that yes, it will cost a lot because of the paint. Just filed a claim with Hagerty and will be filing a police report tomorrow.

Sounds like you're getting things going in the right direction for getting your car fixed. A police report is a good idea. I was thinking that it's possible that your car was hit by a truck because of the damage being on the top of the hood and fender both. Anybody drive a truck where you work? Maybe you could offer a reward for information on who hit your car

Certainly a truck-WAY too high for anything else. It overrode the bumper! My Duster is lowered, but not THAT low. Something like half the people there drive trucks or SUVs.

Cameras will be checked tomorrow. Also filed with insurance, but didn't expect to hear anything on a weekend.

Glad you're having the cameras checked, I remember suggesting that to you. I look for you to hear from your insurance company in a few days or even better yet the low life who hit and run, they need to lose their job over it.

I started that in motion 10 minutes after I saw the damage. It's that I just heard back from my boss a couple hours ago. I also plan to play CSI again tomorrow-I will come in and check all the vehicles.

Found a hood. Figure I can find a fender at Carlisle. (I could probably find a hood there but have no idea how I might get it home.)

Put it on while you're there. Plenty of fellow Moparites to help you if need be

Holy smokes. 5 pages of members trying to lift you up, and not once have you thanked anyone for their support. You've got some very minor damage and you're wanting to light your car on fire and roll it off a cliff?

Have you seen what other people here have gone through with their cars, yet still keep going? The member who had his car stolen and the thieves totaled it? Or last week the member who slid out in the rain and center punched a tree? Or the countless others who've had careless drivers hit them? This forum is full of those cases, but people don't let it push them out of the hobby.

We all understand that you're frustrated -- we're frustrated right there with you. Pull yourself up, show some gratitude, and move on.

Excellent advice. I read that book about 20 years ago. Sometimes we just need some different perspective to change our mindset.
