By NHRA rules is it illegal to use a camera capture system to monitor light from the tree to trigger the throttle reaction?

To be more specific. Certain characteristics of light are very repeatable. With a small computer and software you could hook up a solenoid to the pedal and have it release when the image you are looking for is captured. That would be the image from the tree
Of course with today's technology that would be in the microseconds.

their rule says "NO"
The rules forbid it. More importantly, fellow racers might be very agitated if they found you using a setup like that.
