Do any of you know of any large plush fender covers? Not the vinyl foam-backed ones but something very thick, soft, and plush to cover the fenders including the inner fenders to allow you to work on your engine bay without sweating so much?

I have to reinstall my engine/trans and rewire, etc, etc in my 71 Demon and after all that has been put into the paint/body, I sure don't want to put that first big scratch in it if I can help so!! I've seen just a few covers (like the OEM brand green ones) but most are only 24" or so and would not cover the outer fender and extend down to cover the inner fender much at all.

Thought I'd ask - to see who might know of any out there. Thx!!!

After the repaint of my first car, I used a thick quilt that would drape over the entire fender on the outside and down past the inner fender on the inside. It worked fine.

Agree! And I've used those before too and have a stack ready to go.

We all know how these big jobs go...plan for the best and know it all won't go as planned. And in this case, I sure don't want a nice big gouge or scratch so I'll be taking lots of precautions. Thx for the input!

I like my rubber clingy Mopar fender covers, they don't move around. Are you going to wrap your car in a blanket everytime you work on it? I know, but things will happen no matter what you do. We all have nicks and scratches.

Oh I know it will get its share of "experience" marks. Just trying to see if others have run across some softie covers to try to minimize any damage I do. And I surely don't want to recite the boo-boos I've made over the years!!

The one that I like from Summit, OYL-FG2203 OR FG2201. They are grippey and don't slide around.

Do you have a way to reinstall your engine from underneath? I towed my car to a shop and they let me do it on the cheap.

I have some table cloths I'm not currently using. I could send them your way. :poke:

^^^^^ Please do since you won't be working on that Dart for awhile. And maybe send the kitchen table too?? That old 360 has you spellbound and now that terrific Dart with that 6-pack prowling the streets seems to have become an afterthought!! Maybe next year....

I'm not showing all my cards yet. A good poker player never reveals everything. Hold tight Grasshopper.

Do it from the bottom. It's super easy. Do I have to show you everything. :poke: Did you notice we never even lifted the hood up. :)

:poke:Not going in from the bottom - the engine install should be the easy part (no headers make this MUCH easier). Master cyl, wiring, who know what else will be the challenges....

WV64Signet above has a good idea - some bathroom rugs! This thread has accomplished what I was looking for - see what ideas all these folks have for this job.

But....just for you Grasshopper...we'll cruise 'em together next year....
