i just rebuilt the steering box. after installation my steering wheel automatically went towards the driver side and locked there probably due to pressure. how can i get this to stop

I don`t know about the steering locking but if the wheel pulls to one side or the other the control valve body may be out of adjustment. I think you have to move it down some if the car pulls left.

I just had the exact same thing happen to me after starting my car for the first time. Previous owner said the car sat for several years. I also noticed that the power steering fluid gets hot real quick!!! I am getting ready to pull the return line off the reservior and plug the reservior side and see if fluid is getting through the gearbox itself. I sure don't want to have to pull the gearbox and rebuild. Any help would be appreciated.

loosen the valve on top of the steering chuck just enough to be able to move it by tapping it and move it one way or the other until it centers. it's cranking it's self over because the valve is out of adjustment. that will also cause the fluid to over heat as though your holding the wheel hard to one side

good luck
