Power steering question

Is the piece over the pump with gasket supposed to be loose on the shaft or is it supposed to be connected to the power steering pump?

If you are referring to the metal plate with the fingers, and the rubber gasket, they get crimped onto the steering coupler. Slide both down the shaft until it fits tightly over the coupler. While keeping pressure on it, crimp the fingers around the top of the coupler. Keep them tight as you do this or they will come off again.

If the metal plate is buggered up and won't clamp anymore, here's a way to hold it down without taking it apart to replace it. It's a reproduction of a factory fix, see the tech service bulletin. Pump some gooey grease in the coupler before putting the plate back on.

Thank you I clamped the cover down on top of it and when the clamp comes I will install that
