When switching from power to manual steering and using the power column you need an adapter to make up the difference. These are available and expensive. In lieu of this has anyone combined, perhaps by welding the corresponding parts of 2 stock column adapter bodies to make up the difference?

A few months ago I saw a dart in a junkyard with that setup. Power column to power coupler welded to manual coupler. Pretty funny looking but I guess it worked.

@junkyardhero may have a picture?

man, i remember seeing that abortion... that was good for a laugh.

i thought i took a pic of it but all i have on my camera roll is my own junk, dancing girls and cats.

I did the power column to manual steer with the adapter worked out real nice, I see the adapters have doubled in price.

Using your own Judgement, here is a work-a-round:

i did what George showed in the box. Works fine and looks better without the adapter.

As my old memory serves, in the 70's I used a Volare
steering shaft by undoing the collapsing sleeve and pulled
it out enough to extend it.

I've thought of "extending" the column by essential breaking it. And I've have used the splined coupling before, which are now 3 times the price I paid for one about 20 years ago. I'm thinking of an alternative method like welding parts of 2 stock couplings together to come up with something like Bergmans "universal plunge coupling" for the Borgeson box in reverse.
