Priority Mail Large boxes SHRUNK!!

-
I've noticed differences in post offices. Even though mine is real small they have just about every size box shown on their website. Go figure!

That is called real customer service but here it is just not that way and it never has been. I usually avoid the post office because of the long line and go to one of the satelite locations where packages can be dropped off.

I load my own ammo. I was getting bullets form a guy that shipped them in flat rate boxes. The carrier we had at the time used to ***** every time I got a package....

That's some funny stuff right there lol , I haven't started rolling my own yet so I have to buy case lots off the web to save any money on my ammo , got a 100 rnd case of 338 Lapua a couple of weeks back that the UPS guy just left on my front porch with no signature because he didn't want to carry it back to his truck , I thought about claiming I never got it because leaving something like that on a porch mid day in a residential neighborhood is just retarded so I called to give them crap and they called back after talking to the driver and that's the reason he gave .

As a retired Letter Carrier I resent that high salary remark. I worked very hard for every penney I made and now have earned in retirement. My body has permanent injury from years of repetitive motion and lifting. If you resent the salaries made there go and try to do the job for a day. We had a customer come in one day ranting to the Postmaster how easy the Letter Carrier job was and how over paid we were. The Postmaster offered to let him try it out for a day. When he came in one morning and was told to start sorting the mail for delivery he left in 10 minutes and ate crow.

I ordered some 50 bmg bullets once, believe it was 1500 of them. Figured I would shoot out the stuff I have and then reload the cases. The normal UPS driver was on vacation, his replacement was an 80 pound woman. I had to go in the back of the UPS truck and get it for myself. Got to give her credit, she at least tried....

People have no clue as to what we actually have to do. I was a Mailhandlelr....and that is why I have lumbar spinal stenosis, had carpal tunnel in both sides and a torn bicep. All my co-workers thought I had the easiest job in the place, being bent over cutting mail. My buddy and I moved more mail, just the two of us, then the department next door that had 12 people and a conveyor belt. Was not a night that I did not walk out of the place drenched with sweat. I had several people trained to do my job, yet every time I banged in none of them would step up and go over and do my "easy" job. Seems like most people think every Postal Employee just sits at a window selling stamps all day. Sure, there is a lot of slackers in the PO, but for every slacker there is a person carrying them.....

The short boxes is the big problem but now I have found the deep boxes now. I was mistaking about them being flat rate. I fully expect costs to go up and services to decrease. Hardley anyone uses snail mail for letters anymore.

Glad you found your boxes. Unfortunately, I believe you will find that it will soon be as cost effective to ship via UPS, Fed Ex, or one of the other services in the not too distant future.

How long can you loss money at the rate USPS is and continue to be viable?
I use USPS for all of my small shipping in a personal and company effort to support the postal service as much as possible. We've almost eliminated using UPS and FedEx.
The optimist in me hopes they can pull this off.
The realist in me doesn't see it happening, and that's truly a pity.

The USPS is truly bleeding itself to death. They claim to have closed down the Tucson P&DC. Found out the other day that they are still processing there own letter mail once it is cancelled in Phoenix. So they drive it to Phoenix, cancel it then drive it back to Tuscon to run it thru automation, even though the Phoenix Plant has dozens of machines capable to do this sitting there idle. So Tuscon no doubt has a maintenance staff to maintain the machines that run for 2 hours a day. As well as the staff to run the machines.....and managers......as well as the utility bills etc.....

We are in a city that has 50K people in the city limits and a whole bunch more people outside the city limits that are customers of the local post office. If a letter is going some place local it is still hauled 75 miles to Tulsa and back but yet we have a slot at the post office for local mail.

That is understandable, not all facilities have AFCS's, the machine that cancels the stamps and start the sorting process. Just wondering, does your PO still have a metered box??

A lot of people do not know the real reason the USPS is losing so much money. Congress is using it as a cash cow when they passed a law in 2006 called the postal accountability act. It requires the Postal Service to fund its retirement and healthcare for retirees 75 yrs in the future for people who would not be hired for years to come. It has averaged to be 5 billion dollars a year. No other Federal agency is required to do that. Private corporations do not even do that. The money the Post Office has paid goes into pools of money for all Federal workers. The Post Office is basically funding most of the Federal employees retirement funds. I think this was done because the government is broke. The Postal service would be fine if it was allowed to pay into those retirement accounts at the same rate as other Federal agencies. Remember the Postal Service does not use a penny of taxpayer dollars but is run as a government business.
