I was wondering if anyone know's the production numbers for the 70 thru 76 abodies? I am looking at starting a project and could use your help. Thanks in advance.

Jason

that is quite a group of numbers. if you break it down by car type, engine type and options even bigger group of numbers. some of these numbers are common knowdledge , others are not. some, i have not even been able to find anywhere.......

The reason I am needing this info is for a pitch to try and build an A body specific wiring harness and set it up so that it can cover those 6 years. But unless I can come up with how many were produced they won't believe that there are enough out there to make it sensible to build. But I have to have hard numbers to show. I have found Dodge stuff so now I just need any Plymouth numbers that I can find. Thanks again.

Thanks so much. That will help me greatly. You guys can always seem to find the rest of what I can't seem to come across.

With the ignition change from points to electonic in '72 how are you going to have it fit all years? I also think there are some emission plugs in the harness after '72.

Where there is a will there is a way. If you set it up for the more complex and then take away with idivdual needs it is all there. Just some minor mods. It won't be a 100% direct replacment but a cheaper alternative to a factory replacement.

Are the pins in the firewall connector the same arrangement for all the years?

Good stuff! Now if only the the model lines were broken out for '72 to '76 instead of one big number. Moot point but the Duster 340 should be 360 for '74-'76.

This will not be a 100% correct set up so it will not matter as far as that goes. Most won't know if the pattern is different. It will more than likely be a different type of fuse block/bulkhead connector setup. Alot of the connectors and what not are made of unobtainium and cannot be had without $$$$. What it will more than likely end up looking like will be a harness with all the correct terminals and some of the connectors and you will repin the original. Remember I am looking at a more correct then what we already have but not direct factory replacment so guys like me can afford to have a more simplified harness to install in their cars. If the 68's and what not are the same as far as cut length and connectors and all then it will cover those too. But I do know that the pre 70's had the key in the dash and the 70 and up had it in the column. That is a feat that is hard to make one harness fit both. I'll let you guys know what I come up with. I did get some good news yesterday. They are interested in me doing this so I will have some more conversation and sales pitches to try and make this happen.

Jason

regardless of where the ignition goes, in the 70 up models there was another harness running from the steering column to the rest of the wiring harness. so long as there is a wire for all of the wires going there, I would hazard a guess that pre 70 models had all the same wires, they just went somewhere else.

in the painless wiring harness I bought, the mopar harness, there is no bulkhead connector. nor is there a plate to cover the hole in the firewall like is supplied with their GM harness'

the 70 dart body is closer to the 69 dart than the 74 dart, with the differences being in the rear, and probably a mere matter of an inch or two in length that, if the harness is like the one i bought, would need to be cut to fit regardless of what it was going in.

I would make it to fit the longer of the bodies and the little exess that there would be could be tucked away in the tail panel if there was a little too much. I would more than likely either make the harness with a bulk head or use a plate to cover the original hole and put the grommet in the plate. I have to sit down and work out details and I will be looking for some original harnesses and what not so I can research some of the connectors and figure out how I am going to do this. I may make it so that you can use it in the early cars as well. I am just in the begining stages. If you have comments or suggestions I will be more than happy to hear them and take them into consideration. The more I hear from you guys the better it will be. I am only one person with so many resources.

so are you going to make it a direct plug in type thing with little modification?

I thought when i bought this mopar harness from painless that the word "preterminated" meant I would have to merely plug it in. but that is not the case, going to be a bit more painful. ;-)

Preterminated means at the fuse block. With most of the universal harnesses on the market you get a fuse block and wire and you have to hook it all up. I am going to make it as direct fit as I possibly can. Like I said it may not have the actual connectors but it will have the terminals on the wire to pin the original connector. Since some cars has two speed wipers and some had three that will be one set of connectors that I can assure you that won't be in the harness but the wires and the terminals will be there. The actual ignition systems will vary some and like our other specific fit harnesses may be left a little open as everyone doesn't run the same type of set up on their car. I.E. points, electronic ign., MSD, and so on. The harness you have isn't that difficult to put in. Just know that you will need the original wiper and heater wiring. We give you power to the systems but the switch to motor wiring you will need to retain from the original.

yeah i got all the stuff, the instructions for the dome light and door switches are a little confusing to me as I have the added feature of a map light option that turns the dome light as well as an under dash light on.

not being a master electrician it's spinnin' my noodle a bit.
