It can be used in conjunction with leaf springs or eliminate the leaf springs and use ladder bars or 4 link. If you're not familiar with the systems, google them and do some research as it's pretty much a drag race type suspension. Thanks for your interest...

what does it do for the ride height?

Ride height is adjustable (brackets on the housing) as well as the 'comfort' level of the ride, whether stiff or soft it's adjustable with the shocks and the spring rate of the coil springs. The leaf springs, ladder bars or 4 link center the differential housing in the car whereas the coil-over suspension controls the vertical movement. There's quite a bit of info on-line about coil-over shock settings/adjustments and ride height settings.
