I am wondering if anyone has installed a QA1 front coil over kit(52340-S400)into an early A body(66 Barracuda).

Specifically, I would like to know if anyone has installed a B/RB into one of these K members and was able to run traditional headers(as opposed to fenderwells)?

I am planning my retirement project build and would really like to stuff a big block in this car. I had a similar car and tried when I was a kid, but that project was miserably unsuccessful. It would sure be fun!

Thanks.

currently have 2 1968 darts, 440, other 426 Hemi running QA1 coil over front suspension kits on both cars. Full length SS works headers, both automatic 727 trans no clearance issues on either car

with a low deck, mayyyybe there's room for traditional tubes. with a RB i don't see it.

the clearance isn't so much the suspension bits but the fenderwells and overall tightness of the bay itself. add a 727 in there and stuff gets tight in a hurry.

i'd be looking at schumacher's, those seem to be about the tightest fit and compact package.

Could clearance be made by using motor plates instead of motor mounts. Install the coil over kit, remove provisions for motor mounts and use motor plates.
Wouldn’t that leave more room for steering and exhaust?

It’s not that much fab work.

I’m running rb 440 with rack & pinion for steering, 727 trans, front motor plate, long headers, 2nd car 426 Hemi , front motor plate, rac & pinion steering, manual breaks-long headers on both cars no fender well headers don’t need them don’t like the look

yes, however with a 1968 your engine bay is 2+ inches wider than the early cars.

pre-66 is an entirely different ball o' wax.

You've said all that twice now, but there's a HUGE difference between a 66 and prior and a 68 car. The 67 and up cars are about 3" wider total between the frame rails. That's space the early a bodies do not have.

Interested as well.I am thinking low deck.
Will probably have to build the headers myself.
I have seen them with hipo logs.

Thanks for all the comments.

Looking at the QA1 front kit, my thinking was with the coil overs I could modify the fender wells for more clearance. And with smaller footprint of the rack and pinion box, I might have room for traditional style headers. But without actually installing the kit, I really can't know for sure. It's kind of a big gamble for my budget. The good thing is I have some time before that decision needs to be made.

Cheers!
