Question about master cylinder.

Hey fellas,

My master cylinder went bad and I needed a replacement. I'm a newby mechanic for these things so I have a question.

When I took off the master cylinder, there's a weird gunk build up on the inside. Pictured

Is this something I can just clean and call good or should I be something more to ensure it will work properly?

Yeah, that's just old brake fluid that seeped out the back because your master cylinder was going bad, held moisture, and caused rust.

The best thing to clean up brake fluid is usually denatured alcohol, which shouldn't melt rubber or take off paint.

The rubber in the booster should be resistant to brake fluid, so your booster should be okay.

Right now I have the brakes disassembled for cleaning. But yes, a bench bleed is in the plans.

I have my father helping me. He has a lot more wisdom than I do with Mopars. Got to soak that up!

I’d use one of these masters in place of the old school one…

Pretty sure the brake fluid took care of any paint. Alcohol works for cleaning, water is great too.
