Questions before purchase

My 71 demons got the stock 6 with the 3 spd auto but I picked up a 318 and thought i could match it with the 4 spd but I've got a couple of questions.

Now I know anything will bolt into anything with few exceptions but I was thinking about swapping the auto out on the 6 until i get the 318 rebuilt. So here we go...

Can the bellhousing from the auto be used with the 833?
Will it bolt into the 6 AND the 318 without any mods?
If the 4spds came out of late 70's vans how can i shorten them to fit in an abody?

Can't use the bell housing from the auto to an 833 trans.. Bell housing on the auto is part of the case. Only thing you can change on the auto case is the tail shaft housing. Not sure about your other questions. I'm sure someone here will know though.
