Hello,
Currently have a 1972 Duster.
We are wanting to rebuild the rear end.

Specifically we questioned if we could put 28-10.5 wheels underneath. It sits stock as of right now.

Also would be best? 4 link, triangular link, 4 link w/ track bar? Are there any rear end axles and housing that would support the 28s if possible? Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

Looking for a good setup for street and track as we already have the front end figured out.

Depending on how fast your trying to make you car will dictate what setup is best/cost effective for what your trying to do.

Anything slower than 10-11 seconds, factory style setup is just fine. (Some are running faster) Be it moving the springs inboard, running sliders, narrowing the rear end, adding torque boxes, frame connectors / new frame rails, tubbing, fabing new rear spring mounts, pinion snubber, the list goes on and on.

Alot depends the power and torque of your motor, the tire compound and the track surface. Any glued track with racing compound tires require more than a stock 8 3/4 rear axle can handle. It may hold for awhile, but eventually you’ll start breaking things. As far as suspension, the better the setup, the quicker you will et. You might find there is a tipping point that works best at the track and is harsh on the street.
