Hi I have a 68 barracuda that I am putting a 340 in after I get the body done, hopefully this winter, it had a 318 in it and can't seem to find anything on whether the 340 had a different radiator, does anyone know if they were different, also need a water pump and don't know where to get the original kind, many of them seem to have 2 extra mounting holes on them which appear to be if it has ac an I don't have that. Thanks

Water pumps should be the same as your 318.......Get a high flow (flow cooler) with matching thermostat.

The rads have different numbers.....The 318 set up should work fine if you are not doing anything too radical to the 340. If not, you can get your tanks re-cored to a 3 core.......Although, some will argue that 2 big cores work better than 3, but I have no problem with my stockish 340 and 3 core.

Water pump, timing cover and rad configurations changed around early 1970.......70+ utilize an aluminum pump and the rad hose openings of the rad are located at top left, and bottom right and the timing marks on the cover are cast on the D/S

The pre 1970 utilize a cast iron water pump with the rad hose openings both being left of center, with timing marks on the cover being cast on the P/S or bolted on.

Just make sure all of the components are from the same era.....and will work on your 340.

Hope it helps.....Good luck

Its all right there in the Factory Parts Book

B-L-V (barracuda - Dart - Valiant)
273, 318 and 340 used the same rad for standard cooling 028
318 and 340 used the same rad for HD and AC 068
273 used a different rad for AC 030
