I have a set of 14 inch sbp rallye and want to know if anybody has put a 245/60/14 tire on them. I know that there are only 5.5 inches wide and wonder if anyone had any problems doing that. Also, do they fit the rear of a 2nd generation barracuda. Thanks guys.

I've put 245 60's on a 6" wide rim before and I thought it was very tight. I think a 5.5 rim might distort the tire a bit.

I put 245 / 60 - 14 BFG Radial T/As on factory 14 X 5.5" rallyes. The tires wore badly in the middle.

Info. I gathered over time, says you need a 6.5" or 7" wide rim for the 245/60.

I took some pics, of a 205/70-14 and a 245/60-14 side by side quite a bit of difference.

The 205/70-14 are going on my stock wheels. The 245/60-14 are going on the rear 14x7 aluminum wheels.

You can go to the tire maker's web site and it will tell you what is the minimum width rim for that size of tire. Or Tire Rack is a handy source for comparing different sizes. But I can tell you that most brands recommended 215 as the widest size for a 5.5" rim, when I was shopping for tires for the same wheels.

You don't want to exceed the recommendation -- it distorts the contact patch and can even make the tire subject to rolling off the rim. I have 215/70-14 Firehawk Indy 500s on my 14 x 5.5 rallys, and I think they'd be a little happier on 6" rims. but it hardly seems worthwhile to get them widened. But you can order rally wheels made in any width you want.

That seems like a lot of tire for a 5.5 rim. BFG puts that tire on a 7-8.5" wide rim. They will most likely wear funny if they fit.

I have the BFG Traction T/A on my rallys, but in 195/60/14. Small by many peoples standards but rim appropriate and rides/handles sweet. I'd go up to a 215 tops on a 5.5, but that's just me.

I've used the 245/60-14 on 6" wide rims with no problems but its tighter than recommended by the tire manufacturers. 235s will work on 5.5" wide rims but the 245s will be pushing it.

If you already have the 245 tires, 6" wide rims are fairly easy to come by. The best thing to do is have your 5.5s widened to 7" but thats not exactly cheap.

I have been running 225-70 x 14 on my stock rally wheels for over 25 years and the tires wear fine.

I knew that 245's would be pushing it on 5.5 rims. If I have my rims widen, what would the offset be?

What the guys are saying about wear is true but its not at all unsafe and if you keep the pressure a bit lower they will wear o.k..I know quite a few people running them on a 5.5 rims including my cousins dart and he has alot of street time-about four years worth and they are just now ready for replacement (about 3 3/32nds).
