I have two stering columns, an automatic and a 3 on the tree. I would love to make the column shifter a ratchet type. Any tips on that?

If you have a manual reverse shift valve body you can carefully grind the detent at the top of the column under the steering wheel.
Smack it down and it will go into second, then pull it towards you and down in to third gear.

Not what I would call a ratchet, but I raced a 67 Dart with a column shifted auto, reverse manual valve body.We modified the detent plate so D21 you didn't have to pull the handle towards you to shift.Of course D was now 1,2,3. The trans detent is strong enough to not over shift. After getting used to it it was a easy click, click shift. You just grind out the the stop on the detent in the column plate between D & 2 .Worked for me.

I run a forward manual shift, column shift in my 65 Belvedere without any problem. Not a ratchet but it works too.
