What can anyone tell me about a 8 3/4 rear end from a 1973 van.

I know the housing won't work for a car without some seriouse mods. But what is the deal with the gear set. It has 323 suregripe. Are the axle splines the same as a car? Could I use the gear set for my darts rear end? Or are truck and car 8 3/4 not compatible. The axles do have same bolt pattern as a 1973+ dodge car.

Thanks

Phil

3rd member is the same, spline count is the same. In fact, all 8 3/4 3rd members are interchangeable if you swap the entire chunk. If the 3rd member is original to the van, its either a 741 or a 489 case. Unfortunately, if its original it probably has the cone style sure grip.

Yep, I found 3.91's in a early 70's van and 3.58's in a 58 dodge pickup.
