A guy here in LA is asking $75 for a rear out of a 66GT with a slant. I asked him if it was a 7 1/4 and he has no idea. My 7 1/4 is making a lot of noise, I think it is a wheel bearing.

He did not know what to charge for the rear, is that about right? Would it make sense to replace the whole rear end, and how hard is that to do? He said it worked well but was replaced when the car got a V8.

The wheel bearings are not that hard to change but if you are not used to that sort of thing it might be easier to swap the whole rear axle out. On the other hand, how rusty are all the bolts holding it in. The 7 1/4 is a dinky little thing and I wouldn't want to pay that much 4 one unless you know its in good condition . If it has new brakes (drums, shoes, cylinders, springs) all that stuff adds up quick $. Have any seals been replaced? If you can take the rear cover off and look for metal shavings that would be good. You will want to look for rust and pits or wear marks on the gears.

How many 7.25's do you want?

I have one in Indio if you want it. Was headed to the scapper otherwise.
